Much to my surprise, it appears that Rob’s Dream Company (a notional corporation)’s ideal location is turning out to be in Cambridge, Ontario. Specifically, the part of town that was once Preston, and more specifically, the small downtown area (approximate location, at Google Maps

As I raved about yesterday, The Mayan Grill is located in downtown yesterday, and my favorite thai place (whose name I cannot remember or spell because I am a horrible person) is a scant 6 or so blocks away, on the other side.

I’ve identified the core foods required by Rob’s Dream Company (a notional corporation) in the past to be: burrito, burger, pad thai and chicken curry. The Mayan Grill doesn’t actually serve burritos, as I think they are a Tex Mex invention, but that’s okay because burritos can be abstracted to high quality Mexican food quite easily.

So, two major food criteria straddle Preston’s downtown, and there are quite a few establishments in the downtown proper. Most notably is a Firkin Pub, which at least guarantees a place to get a reasonable burger and a pint of Guinness (which wasn’t on the list but really should be).

Not too far away is a decent all-you-can-eat Indian Food buffet, so while the curry is not in walking distance it’s a short drive. And for all I know one of the many small places I have yet to explore could supply a great one.

Preston has some financial advantages too, it is a really lovely old community that appears to be neither thriving nor in decline. The one possible disadvantage is that I’m not convinced it is readily accessible from transit, and the commute from Waterloo and most of Kitchener isn’t tremendous.
